Wright® Brand History
1922 - Roy Wright and Fay Eggleston established the Vernon Meat Company in the back room of a grocery store in Vernon, Texas.
1926 - Vernon Meat Company moved out of the grocery store and into its own building. In addition to meat, the company distributed tea, vinegar, cheese, beans, syrup, and preserves.
1933 - Vernon Meat Company added a slaughterhouse and began processing its own cattle and hogs. The volume averaged about 900 head of cattle and 600 hogs per week.
1938 - A fire destroyed the Vernon Meat Company. A new, federally inspected building was quickly built.
Early 1940s - Roy Wright and his eldest son, Bill, left the Vernon Meat Company to start Wright Packing Company.
1960s - Wright Packing Company grew to 225 employees and processed 800 cattle and 5,000 hogs per week.
1978 - Wright Packing Company left the slaughtering business in order to focus solely on their specialty, processing high quality bacon and hams.
1986 - Wright Packing Company changed its name to Wright Brand Foods.
1999 - IBP acquired Wright Brand Foods.
2001 - Tyson Foods acquired IBP, including Wright Brand Foods.
